Executive Director - Ryan Maarschalk

Ryan Maarschalk is the Executive Director and Director of tennis at Greenbelt Tennis Club in Tennis Newfoundland & Labrador.
Ryan brings a wealth of playing experience from growing up in Zimbabwe under the influence of the Black family that has populated the professional doubles rankings for the passed 10-15 years. Ryan was #233 in the world in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) rankings and #154 in doubles. He went on to earn a tennis scholarship at Western Michigan University (WMU). While there, Ryan captained the team for 2 years, earned Team MVP two years running, was awarded the Scholar-Athlete award 2 years running, and led the team to a Top 45 NCAA Division 1 ranking playing at the #1 and #2 singles position and the #1 doubles position.
After completing a Biomedical Science degree at WMU Ryan was the Top player in Alberta Open and Top 20 in Canadian Open rankings. Ryan was in charge of Junior Development at the Calgary Winter Club and worked closely with Tennis Alberta on Community Development and High Performance. Ryan continues to compete in some tournaments in Newfoundland and is based out of Greenbelt Tennis Club.
Ryan has worked with many Provincial and National level juniors including a few stand-out players that finished top of the U16s & U18s in Canada and top 200 in the ITF rankings. Many of these players went on to earn University Tennis scholarships to the States.
Ryan lives with his wife, Charla, and two sons, Liam and Jesse, in St John’s.
