OPEN ELIGIBILITY

Technically open events are accessible to anyone regardless of age or level of play, however usually players who are of a high caliber tend to take part in these events. Typically individuals who are 5.0 and up level of play enter open tournaments.

Open Ranking Calculation

The point allocations are based on the chart below. If you lose your first match, whether you had a bye or not, you earn one point. That single point will then, as with all points earned, be multiplied by the appropriate star value. In a Round Robin draw, the player losing all of their matches will receive the single point. In the case of Open events with qualifying rounds, first round losers in the qualifying will get the single point.

Eligibility of Results

Open Rankings are calculated based upon a player’s best 3 results for Open tournaments. Results are based on the previous twelve-month period. This sliding calendar year is based on 52 weeks each year and will delete the 53rd week each time for ranking lists.

Open National Rankings

Only events offering a minimum of $500 prize money per event (men or women) are eligible for National Ranking purposes. The tournaments are classified by prize money, with more points being awarded to higher-level events. The results will be forwarded to Tennis Canada for inclusion in the national ranking system.
